This page summarizes some of the hardware tips that have been on MythTV News and also adds a few more.
So if you are looking to build a new MythTV box or maybe just upgrading one of the components, take a look below. The list doesn’t cover a complete setup, only those areas where I have a clear recommendation.
Harddrive
The Green Power lineup from Western Digital, also known as WD Caviar GP or . It is silent, low-power and available in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB.
Power Supply
Enermax Modu82. Also very silent, highly efficient and available in 425, 525 and 625 watt versions.
CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo. Low power, but great performance. Especially the new 45nm Penryn processors, such as the E8200 and E8400. Also, all the Core 2 Duo chips are fabulous overclockers if you are into that sort of thing.
Case
SilverStone, if you are looking for a HTPC kind of case. These cases are of high quality and they look great. They are available in many variations and the prices are reasonable.
If you are looking for a backend-only case to put in the basement, then I recommend the Antec cases. Performance One is the top of the line, while the New Solution Series are cheap but still offer good quality.
