If your backend crashes from time to time, then you should definately take a look at a new page on the mythtv.org wiki.
It is a description of several scripts used with pcsk to respawn your backend if it dies unexpectedly.
Personally, my mythbackend is very stable, so I don’t need this. But I do know how I would feel if I were losing recording occationally, and then I would definately try this.
